New treatment coming soon: Reiki Massage

Reiki Massage

This month I’m incredibly excited to announce that I have some wonderful new treatments coming very soon at McKenzie Remedial Massage – Back Massage with Reiki and Indian Head Massage with Reiki.

After training to Level 1 last year, I am now in the process of completing my Level 2 certification so that I can begin to offer this beautiful, non-invasive therapy alongside my existing menu of remedial massage services.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a complementary healing modality which originated in Japan over 100 years ago. Using universal energy (also known as ‘life force energy’), Reiki can help to bring a greater sense of wellbeing, balance and alignment too all areas of the body whilst offering relief from emotional or physical pain. Treatment often uses a combination of hands-on and hands-off techniques, with the therapist moving around the body to direct reiki energy where it is needed the most.

Because Reiki is so gentle it is ideal for people who are more sensitive to touch or would like to try a softer approach to alleviate pain or stress. It also helps to promote feelings of calm and relaxation.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki also lends itself well to being paired with other types of therapy such as massage and reflexology. Because these healing modalities work within the body in similar ways, the benefits can be amplified when they are used together. When combined with therapeutic massage, Reiki can be incredibly beneficial for a number of conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Cancer
  • Depression
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Digestive issues

Although Reiki isn’t a cure for any illness or disease, it can help to reduce and soothe side-effects of conditions or medications to bring a greater sense of calm and wellbeing.

What can I expect from a Reiki massage?

Prior to any treatment we’ll sit down together to discuss your requirements and your reason for seeking Reiki massage treatment. This enables me to tailor the treatment to your needs. Reiki is safe for most people, but during your consultation I’ll conduct a review of your health history and current concerns to ensure it’s right for you.

During a Reiki massage with me treatment will be very similar to a regular massage, with Reiki added before, during or after the session. As always, ambient lighting, music and soothing oils will be applied to help support deep relaxation and a calming atmosphere (in fact, many people fall asleep during Reiki!). During the Reiki treatment itself I’ll hover my hands over specific areas or use a very light touch. You may feel warmth, tingling or pulsing energy in these areas as we move around different parts of the body.

After Reiki massage you should leave feeling lighter, calmer and with a brighter mood. These changes can happen instantly but you should also start to notice a difference over the following days and weeks. Usually a course of several treatments or more are recommended for best results depending on your specific concerns.

As always, it’s important to follow aftercare including rest and drinking plenty of water to enable to full effects of the treatment to integrate.
