What is Thai Foot Massage?

On a personal and professional level I’m passionate about massage because of how transformative it can be for our health – physically, mentally and emotionally.

I see these changes in my clients each and every day – and nothing brings me more joy than applying a seemingly simple solution or technique to bring about relief from an acute or ongoing health concern. But massage is also fascinating for me because as a discipline it is so complex – there are many different types of massage, each with unique individual benefits to offer.

One commonly overlooked but incredibly powerful type of massage is Thai Foot Massage. Most people are familiar with the benefits of a foot massage – easing out the toes and muscles after a long day to bring relief to the feet and legs. But this Eastern approach is a little different, employing specialised techniques to refresh, re-invigorate and support your overall health in a holistic way.

What is a Thai Foot Massage?

Thai Foot Massage originated in Thailand over a thousand years ago. It was developed within the realms of Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional medicine system which is most commonly associated with India, but was popular across South East Asia in years gone by. Thai Foot Massage in particular is said to have been developed initially by Buddhist monks at the Thai Royal Palace.

The principles of Thai Foot Massage focus on stimulating and enabling the flow of energy through the body via stimulating various acupressure points within the feet. They unintentionally combine principles of reflexology, yoga, Shiatsu and Chinese Traditional Medicine, supporting a holistic and balanced path to better health.

What can I expect during a Thai Foot Massage?

Like every massage appointment, we’ll begin with a consultation to understand what your concerns are and the reason for your visit today. Perhaps you’re drained and in need of a pick-me-up, fancy an hour of relaxation to yourself or have a specific health concern you’d like support with.

During a Thai Foot Massage you’ll be comfortably lay down and cosy as with my other types of massages. Gentle butters and oils will be used to massage the feet and calves in line with your individual needs and tailored treatment plan.
